Honey Creek Presbyterian Church
New Carlisle, Ohio
“Transformed by God’s spirit through service and community”
Honey Creek Presbyterian Church, New Carlisle, has formalized its outreach to Haiti, which began in 2010 when a group from Honey Creek traveled to Haiti and worked on helping complete the demolition of the crumbled St. Joseph’s Home for Boys in Port-au-Prince following a devastating earthquake in January of that year.
In June of 2011 a group, with representatives from four churches in our presbytery, went to help on the initial stages of rebuilding the site for the Wings of Hope Home for Children living with severe disabilities.
Honey Creek’s pastor, the Rev. Dr. Shelley Wiley, has been traveling to Haiti since 1997 and has worked with the St. Joseph Family Homes ever since that first trip.
While these trips were meaningful, it is Rev. Wiley’s desire to develop an ongoing program of taking groups to Haiti, and the Honey Creek Presbyterian Church leadership is excited to make that a reality.
The session of Honey Creek has adopted a formal Haiti Mission policy and put in place a Haiti Mission Committee.
The church is planning a mission trip to Haiti October 27-November 3, 2012 (tentative) to possibly do construction alongside Haitian workers on building the Wings of Hope facility and/or volunteer at a children’s hospital and adult hospices in Port au Prince.
